It is cheaper to have regular maintenance done on your vehicle than pay for one single repair or the many that come from not having regular maintenance done on your air condition compressor or other parts.

Wondering how much it would cost including labor? I got an estimate for about $1100 including the belt (apparently the belt might have worn through when the compressor started seizing up).

AC Compressor - Repair advice question.?
I have a Ford Focus ZX3 2003 and I have a problem with AC Compressor (it starts burning when I drive, mechanic told me that it needs to be replaced. I live in Las Vegas and it is generally very hot right now. That might be the reason why it is happening. I was told that I need to replace that and reciever dryer.
1) Do I really have to replace 2 parts not just one
2) What would be the best place to buy parts by myself (and dont get charged 250% of they value at a shop)
3) Can that problem disappear in a month and a half or so when the summer is over and it is gonna get colder out there?

Thanks for your answers so far. I had the problem with overheating so I went to a mechanic and he replaced that part that stores anti-freeze (because it was leaking) and some other parts that were suppose to go with it. After 2 or 3 days I was driving around for a while (about 4 hours almost all the time) and the car started overheating. It starts with the AC not blowing out the cold air and then it is overheating (the gauge goest to the red etc). I had that problem with the steam coming out of the AC Compressor area and it smells like burning rubber (outside and inside the car a little bit too). I could probably get by somehow with AC off for the next 2 months instead of spending money for the repiar. What would be fair price for doing that anyway. Where can I get parts (dealership, autozone etc)?

Is this worth it, car purchase?
Basically my dads mechanic has been getting ready to move to new jersey, my dad has helped him like by letting him live in his office/warehouse for a few weeks. In turn the mechanic has helped with our car repairs. Anyways. The mechanic will have to leave his car, it either will be junked or sold to my dad for $300 bucks. Does it sound like a good deal we are talking about a 1996 or newer Jimmy In rough shape, needs ac compressor repair. But that's about it he says.
