How Do Scrambler Radar Detectors Work?
Scrambler Radar Detectors like Rocky Mountain RMR C435 and RMR C475 have a different technology that offers you more protection than the conventional Radar Detector. They offer more protection and these units cost more too.
The Radar Transmitter transmits a signal at a moving car. The reflected signal frequency is changed by a measurable amount. When received this change is calibrated into miles per hour. This is a wide Radar Beam that can include several cars on an Interstate Highway. Laser Transmitter operation is similar to Radar. The main difference is that the Laser beam width is small enough to pick out one vehicle on an Interstate Highway.
The Scrambling Radar Detectors must be mounted looking out the windshield for them to operate properly. Simply lay the radar detector on the dashboard or use the hardware to mount it on the windshield. If the Detector is on the dashboard it can be concealed easier if you want to get it out of site quickly.
A Radar Detector is simply a scanning RF Receiver that is tuned to frequencies in the 10 to 36 Giga Hertz Range and will alert you if there is a Radar Transmitter nearby. It will also receive a Laser signal, approximately 905 nanometers (nm) that will alert you if there is a Laser Transmitted near by. Scanning is how the Radar Detector tunes across the 10 to 36 Giga Hertz Range. It takes some amount of time for it to scan each band. The Rocky Mountain Detectors scan 2 to 4 times faster than their competitors.
The Scrambler receives a Radar signal, it will feed the signal to a mixer where noise is added to mix up the radar signal. This noisy signal is reflected back to the radar source so it indicates the wrong speed.
The Laser Scrambler transmits a series of pulses at the same wavelength used by the laser guns. They are electronically timed to be about 100 feet apart. The laser gun transmits pulses and measures how long it takes to hit your car and return. Then it sends out more pulses to calculate your speed from the change in distance over time. The Rocky Mountain RMR C435 and RMR C475 Scramblers allow the laser gun to see up to 100 feet. Technically speaking your speed cannot be measured until you are less than 100 feet from the laser gun.
With this information it will still be possible to get a speeding ticket.
