Looking For The Right Heating Air Conditioning
Many people rely very heavily on their air conditioning and heating systems, and may not even realize how much of a daily impact they have on their lives until a problem occurs and they no longer work as expected. For many people, it is time to call a contractor who specializes in heating air conditioning in Portland. It may seem a little intimidating to find a good contractor, but it isn't as hard as it may seem.
When you are looking for the right contractor to work with your ventilation system, you may want to start with an internet search. If you look for 'heating air conditioning in Portland' you will be able to generate a list of contractors near you that specialize in the work you need to have done. You will be able to see where they are located and may be able to find a lot of good information on their websites. Some may include customer referrals or testimonials, which can help you get a feeling for how other people have felt about their work. Often, you can find price lists for services, which can really give you something to compare as you look at other companies.
Quality is one of the most important aspects of this type of repair, and you want an experienced contractor to do the work for you. Finding out how long a contractor has been in business and how much experience he has providing services for heating air conditioning in Portland on systems similar to the one in your house will help you feel confident that the quality of the work will be good.
It is also a good idea to check on the licensing and insurance coverage of the contractor before you hire him to do the work for you. You want to know that everyone will be safe and that accidents and damage related to the repairs will be covered by his policy.
Be sure to get all estimates in writing so that you can compare prices and services between companies. If you feel that each of the companies you are looking at has plenty of experience and can be expected to do an excellent job in providing repairs to your heating air conditioning in Portland, then you can look at the amount of time it will take and the prices that will be charged to help you make your final decision. Be sure to read the entire contract before signing it, and make sure that the contractor also signs it so that you are both protected.

How much does central air conditioning cost?
My future husband and I just purchased our first home. The home is a small cape cod-936 sq ft. It already has forced air, a brand new furnace, and all the duct work is already in place. With that in mind, what would it cost to add central air?

Central Air Conditioning - Cost of Freon Recharge?
PROBLEM: I have a central air conditioning system which is freezing up (coils in the inside unit have ice building), most probably due to low freon....which itself may or may not be due to a leak.
QUESTION 1: I know that the cost of a recharge varies by how much freon is required...but can somebody give me a ballpark cost?
QUESTION 2: Additionally, if the low freon is due to a leak, what is the ballpark cost of fixing the leak?
By the way, I know that the short-term fix is to run the fan and allow the ice to melt and then turn the A/C back on but not too cold.
Thank you.
Thanks for the responses so far but neither really answers my questions. I have no interest in signing up to get quotes nor does it really help to know how much an annual check-up costs. I do appreciate the responses but need somebody to give me ballpark costs. Thank you.

Central air conditioning costs and alternatives?
I live in an apartment that's about 1100 sq. feet and has a wall heater and one window A/C in the living room/kitchen only. I've been suffering every summer but I'm afraid to ask my landlord to install central A/C.
The house is from the late 60's to early 70's with single pane aluminum sliding windows and NO insulation and NO duct work. Also, it is a 2nd floor apt unit (the roof is directly above my apartment) and gets unbearably hot in summer. I live in Southern California. Would insulation be cheap as well? For instance, if insulation were installed, I'm sure my 10,000 BTU unit would cool my 375 sq foot living room & kitchen much better than it does now. Just wondering how expensive central A/C is =)
*Currently, my newer LG 10,000 BTU unit doesn't seem to suit the apartment well. Although it's suited for this size room (375 sq. feet), I think the inefficient windows and having a kitchen in the same room impacts its performance. Rather than cooling, it keeps the temperature constant, and my guess is that an equal amount of heat seeps in, except at night that's when it actually cools.
