Home HVAC not cooling; compressor could be bad...?
Rheem HVAC unit stopped cooling last night. I checked it this afternoon and found that the compressor seems to be having problems. When I cut off the breaker for the compressor and outside fan, then cut the breaker back on, the fan turns on and runs fine, but the compressor will only sometimes turn on; and when it does, it sounds like it's running real rough; then it will cut off after a few seconds. Other times, the fan will cut on, then the compressor will cut on a few seconds later; and when the compressor does cut on, the fan will stall for a couple of seconds in the process, like the action is drawing lots of current. The 4 ton unit is 10 years old. Does this all sound like the compressor is going bad? Also, I found a compressor online for about $700.00, is this a good price, and is it even a good idea to purchase a compressor online, then have a local AC company install it? My compressor model is ZR47K3-PFV-935. Do I need to make sure I purchase a compressor with this identical model? I found some others that are the same model, except the 935 is a different number; does that mean it wouldn't work as my replacement compressor? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Is it normal for my HVAC unit to do this?
We have just started running our Heat pump air conditioner this week. I have noticed that when it turns on there is a delay from the outside unit to when the inside units starts to blow air out of the registers in the house. The fan on the outside unit will run and then about a minute goes by and finally you will hear the unit in the house kick on. Is this normal? I don't remember this happening last year. We have our unit serviced every six months and we are waiting a call back for spring/summer service. But in the meantime, I'd love to hear you thoughts on the delay. Thanks.

Rheem RBHC-17J14SFA HVAC unit not cooling; pipe frozen?
We have a Rheem RBHC-17J14SFA and the AC won't come on right. When I turned it on initially, it cooled for several hours but then the house started to get even warmer than it was outside. We called our HVAC tech but in the meantime, I cleaned the thingy (sorry for using such a technical term, lol) that's attached to the unit that drains water to the outside and then the unit seemed to run fine yesterday. I called him to cancel since it seemed all was well. Now of course, it has started again. Also, I noticed that the large insulated copper pipe has a build up of frost, both inside and outside the house. It only seems to have frost forming in the areas that aren't covered with the black insulation though. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! After looking a little closer, I cleared debris from the outside unit and cleaned the coils. On the inside unit, the coils were surrounded by a block of ice and were dirty but it's hard to reach inside to clean so I wasn't able to get it as clean as I would like. There is also a puddle of water, about 1.5", below the coils on the inside unit.

Installing A ductless mini split?
I'm going to install a ductless split AC system in my upstairs for my room and my sons room. I've been shopping around and have a few questions 1. Around how much would just installation be? It's 2 rooms, upstairs in a bilevel house 2. Is it acceptable to buy anything but LG or Mitshubishi? It seems those are the two "big" brands...there are other cheaper ones but i cannot find too much info on them. We'd only really be using these at night...We've had our HVAC unit replaced and serviced, it simply isnt going to do the job on the upstairs. We're sick of window units. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
