All you have to do is be able to recognize a crappy argument when you see one. There's nothing more to it. I don't have to know about Epicurus or Socrates or anything. need replacement for OLD welbilt air conditioner?
i'm looking for a replacement thru-the-wall air conditioner for an OLD welbilt air conditioner in my apartment. it appears the unit is not that deep, in that it doesn't protrude through the wall like most new air conditioners i see today. it's flush with the outside wall of the building.
being that i live on the first floor, i wouldn't want a unit to stick that far out where people(including kids) will be walking.
the dimensions of the unit are about 26.5w x 15h. i couldn't measure the depth. i don't know the BTU's of the existing unit , but i think i need 14,000BTU or better. the unfortunate thing is it is an open area which includes a living room, kitchen, dining room, and hallway.
any suggestions?

Brand-new air conditioner (window unit) blows air but doesn't cool it - is there a reason?
My landlady's husband just installed a new window-unit type AC in my apartment. We ran it for about 20 minutes while he was there, and it never started to actually cool the air down. He and the handyman then told me that often new air conditioners that are shipped/stored on one side need time for the coolant/freon/whatever to settle back into the coils (or whatever). I just ran home a little bit ago - about 3 hours after it was installed - and it still wasn't cooling air. Were the guys right - do I just need to wait a bit longer - or can we officially say this sucker is malfunctioning?
The unit is definitely set on "cool" rather than "fan"
