I have old central AC system and thinking of buying a portable ac unit to get my apt cool.?
I live in a second story apt my ac is very old and property management wont replace it because it isn't broke. I'm thinking of adding a room ac unit but do not know what kind, what size, what brand, etc... Currently with temps over 100 daily my apartment by 5 p.m. gets up to 80 with temps spiking 110-117 reaches indoor temps of 95 F. Thermostat set at 68. Help!!! And I live in northern California

AC and PC plugged into the same circuit?
I'm wanting to plug both my small room AC unit and my computer in to what I think is the same circuit (i.e. two separate sockets about two feet from one another). I know it's not a great idea, but would I lessen the chance of tripping the circuit if I set the AC on a "less cool" setting? Would that "save" enough power to lessen the chance of a circuit trip or short? Serious question, I'm not a troll, it's just I know zilch about electricity stuff! Thanks.

If I put a dark sheet over my window, will that make my room cooler???
I stay in the bonus room over the garage, so my room is always hotter than the rest of the house in the summer, and colder in the winter. The cold I can deal with. I have recently bought a good amount of electronics, so now my room is hotter than ever. A window ac unit is out of the question, not allowed by neighborhood covenants. I can't afford a one room ac unit at the moment, plus I hear it will send the electric bill through the roof. I already have 2 fans, and sleep in as little as possible (nothing). Because of this, and other factors, leaving the door open at night is also out of the question. I am farthest from the ac, but it blows pretty well, I just have all these electronics ( big tv, surround sound, comp, Xbox 360) putting out all kinds of heat. I guess I could read a book to stay cool, but c'mon thats not a fix. I was wondering if putting a plastic sheet, regular sheet, something to cover the window would help any. Any other suggestions are also welcome. Thanks!

Energy guide tag for my AC says the yearly estimated yearly operation cost is $41. Is that to run 24/7 365days?
I bought a room AC unit today, and it came with the Energy Guide Tag. On the tag it says that it would cost $41 for the estimated yearly operating cost. Does that mean I can run it 24 hours a day 7days a week, and my yearly cost is $41? Or does that mean "normal" use? What can I expect on my bill?
