Today everyone wants to live a life of standard. Due to the invention of new technologies people are becoming used to lead a luxurious life. One such item of luxury that is being found to be used by almost everyone is an air conditioner.

Air conditioning units are one of the most important electrical appliances that are used for both domestic as well as commercial purposes. People mainly make use of them during summer season. Now-a-days air conditioners have become more of a necessity rather than luxury. By controlling the temperature to a suitable level, these units are used by millions of people all over the world. They provide pure and non- humid air which makes people feel better.

There are various types of air conditioning units available in the market. They all have same functions but are known by different names. This is because of the different machineries that are used inside all serving same purpose.

There are mostly two kinds of air conditioning systems. One is traditional and other is commercial air conditioning units. The traditional type will be a highly proficient and efficient unit that can work with your existing duct work to chill or cool your home properly without wasting endless amounts of electricity. Commercial units depend on the type of application. Their size is large and has many special features like they keep the dust out of the air and also keep the mold out of the area.

Here is the list of some different types of air conditioning units:

1. Window AC: These are the oldest and cheapest form of air conditioning units. They are quite effective and efficient in cooling smaller areas and so are usually used for residential purposes.

2. Split AC: These are mainly used in commercial buildings. These are also called as ducting ac units.

3. Packaged AC: These units work efficiently and silently and are designed to cool very large areas.

4. Ductless AC: These are very seldom used for cooling large areas and can be efficiently used in areas with no ducts.

5. Portable AC: These are also known as mobile units. There is no need to mount them on walls and can be transported easily. These are sub-divided into various categories:

5.1 Portable air conditioners with single hosed units
5.2 Portable air conditioners with dual hosed units
5.3 Portable air conditioners with split units
5.4 Portable air conditioners with heat and cool units

6. Central AC: These are widely used in areas that require huge cooling capacity such as commercial buildings, shopping malls, movie theatres etc.

The coils in my gas heater have rusted. How much to fix this?
We have a split unit and the heat is not working. The fan will come on but the air is not hot. Our coils have rusted because of a leak. How much would this cost to fix? Would it just be cheaper to buy a whole new unit?

how much do it cost to install split unit air conditioning?
I have a 1050 square foot home, 2 floors but I only need 1 floor cooled. How much am I looking at for the whole thing? parts and labor? I live in Montreal, I have 1050 square feet on each floor. I am looking for a ball park figure. 300 for installation or 600 or more? how much BTU do I need? is 1800 BTU enough?

Has anyone ever heard of North Cool air conditioners? Any comments?
A neighbor of mine has a split unit from these guys and claims that it works really well. It's not that I don't trust the guy but I'm looking for some more info on the company and what's out there is pretty vague. They're suppose to be based in the Netherlands but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I know of a distributor here in Montreal but that's it. Is this a made in China - run of the mill A/C unit?
