Trane Through The Wall Air Conditioners For Resorts

Air conditioning has improved the quality of life for millions, if not billions of people. Trane is one of the larger American manufacturers of air conditioning equipment. Let's take a look at Trane through the wall air conditioners.

Modern air conditioning technology is usually based on either evaporation cooling or refrigeration cooling. This article will only be discussing refrigeration cooling. Refrigeration cooling extracts heat from the area to be cooled by evaporating a refrigerant fluid in an enclosed evaporation unit. The fluid is then pumped out of the area and compressed to release the heat.

Trane is a subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand and formerly part of American Standard Companies. It is a leading manufacturer of heating and cooling systems. Its products include gas furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, integrated systems, and supporting equipment. It offers both home and commercial lines of equipment.

The bulk of Trane's air conditioning products are central air conditioning systems and other large scale commercial cooling systems. They do have a line of what they call Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners(PTAC) which could be referred to as through the wall air conditioners. They can be installed in windows or through holes constructed in walls. A typical application for them would be in a hotel's guest rooms, where individual control is desirable, and where the system might be entirely turned off if the room is not in use.

Some PTACs are actually heat pumps. A heat pump can either heat or cool. It uses the refrigeration process in either case. When heating it brings heat from outdoors into the area to be heated.

PTAC cooling capacities range from 7, 000 BTUs up to 15, 000 BTUs. They can either have no electric heating or they can have up to 5 kilowatts. Some models operate on 208 volt electricity, others on 265 volts.

A central location can turn PTACs on and off. The front desk at a hotel could turn on a unit when it is going to be occupied. When the guests check out, it can be turned off without someone actually going to the room.

They can work with different kinds of thermostats. Maintenance staff can establish upper and lower limits on thermostat settings. If necessary, a separate temperature sensor can be placed in a better location in the room.

Dehumidifying the air but not cooling it is possible. This is cheaper than cooling and may be just as comforting. Filtered air can be vented in. The filtering reduces dust and pollen in the air, which keeps the room cleaner and makes it more pleasurable to breathe. Trane PTACs are designed to be quiet, and are even quieter with the fan on low.

Heat pump units with electrical heating will turn on the electrical heat if a heat pump failure is detected. If all units come back on right after a power failure, a dangerous surge can occur. This is prevented by delaying each unit's restart for a variable period. The compressor will not restart for at least three minutes after a shutdown. A faster restart could cause excess wear.

Due to their efficient and quiet operation, centralized air conditioning and heating are often favored. It is good to remember that less central options have their advantages. In some situations one of the Trane through the wall air conditioners can be a good choice.

Can a window air conditioner be used as a through-the-wall air conditioner?
There are so many more window A/C's than that of a through-the-wall A/C, I am wondering if it isn't all that bad to consider the window A/C? Please provide feedback if you are informed.

Carrier Thru-Wall A/C with Heat -- repair or replace?
I have a Carrier through-the-wall air conditioner with heat that has stopped working. I think the compressor is bad. Is it better to repair this unit or purchase a replacement? I think this is actually a through-the-wall heat pump. Was making a pretty loud noise when running in the cooling mode, but now won't even turn on for heat. The fan will run in the fan mode, but not in heat or cool mode.

Do I need to install a Lintel when cutting a hole in a brick wall?
I am renovating an apartment i just purchased and am planning on installing two through-the-wall air conditioners. The dimensions of the sleeves being installed are 17"x27." The unit is the first story with one story above and is brick veneer with framed construction. I know that brick is self arching and was thinking I could get away without installing lintels in the openings but just want to see what some others think. Do you think a piece of angle (perhaps 1/4" thick 2"x2") would be sufficient as a lintel given the small opening?
