Trane Through The Wall Air Conditioners For Resorts

Air conditioning has improved the quality of life for millions, if not billions of people. Trane is one of the larger American manufacturers of air conditioning equipment. Let's take a look at Trane through the wall air conditioners.

Modern air conditioning technology is usually based on either evaporation cooling or refrigeration cooling. This article will only be discussing refrigeration cooling. Refrigeration cooling extracts heat from the area to be cooled by evaporating a refrigerant fluid in an enclosed evaporation unit. The fluid is then pumped out of the area and compressed to release the heat.

Trane is a subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand and formerly part of American Standard Companies. It is a leading manufacturer of heating and cooling systems. Its products include gas furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, integrated systems, and supporting equipment. It offers both home and commercial lines of equipment.

The bulk of Trane's air conditioning products are central air conditioning systems and other large scale commercial cooling systems. They do have a line of what they call Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners(PTAC) which could be referred to as through the wall air conditioners. They can be installed in windows or through holes constructed in walls. A typical application for them would be in a hotel's guest rooms, where individual control is desirable, and where the system might be entirely turned off if the room is not in use.

Some PTACs are actually heat pumps. A heat pump can either heat or cool. It uses the refrigeration process in either case. When heating it brings heat from outdoors into the area to be heated.

PTAC cooling capacities range from 7, 000 BTUs up to 15, 000 BTUs. They can either have no electric heating or they can have up to 5 kilowatts. Some models operate on 208 volt electricity, others on 265 volts.

A central location can turn PTACs on and off. The front desk at a hotel could turn on a unit when it is going to be occupied. When the guests check out, it can be turned off without someone actually going to the room.

They can work with different kinds of thermostats. Maintenance staff can establish upper and lower limits on thermostat settings. If necessary, a separate temperature sensor can be placed in a better location in the room.

Dehumidifying the air but not cooling it is possible. This is cheaper than cooling and may be just as comforting. Filtered air can be vented in. The filtering reduces dust and pollen in the air, which keeps the room cleaner and makes it more pleasurable to breathe. Trane PTACs are designed to be quiet, and are even quieter with the fan on low.

Heat pump units with electrical heating will turn on the electrical heat if a heat pump failure is detected. If all units come back on right after a power failure, a dangerous surge can occur. This is prevented by delaying each unit's restart for a variable period. The compressor will not restart for at least three minutes after a shutdown. A faster restart could cause excess wear.

Due to their efficient and quiet operation, centralized air conditioning and heating are often favored. It is good to remember that less central options have their advantages. In some situations one of the Trane through the wall air conditioners can be a good choice.

What's the difference between thru the wall air conditioners and window air conditioners?
I have a 1100 s/f area that is like a big vertical room. I would like to put an AC unit in and I only have windows in the back of the room. Can you put a wall AC anywhere there is a wall and are there pros and cons between window vs. wall unit? Should I get 2 AC units because of the size? The 1100 SF room is broken down into 3 rooms but there are no doors between these rooms. Thanks for your help!!

Replacing a thru-wall air conditioner with a smaller one?
I have two thru-the-wall Air conditioners that look pretty old and have died over the past few years. We have been debating on replacing them. I think my wife took the dimensions to Sears and it was $500 for a new a/c and install. Not sure??? One opening is 27 1/8 inches x 16 3/4 inches. The opening is 26 inches x 18 3/4 inces. My question is do I need to find the exact air conditioner size to replace these, or can I go a bit smaller? If so, how much smaller? The current a/c dimensions are a bit smaller obviously to fit the opening. I would love to be able to install myself to save some $$$. I assume it is just a matter of disconnecting the power and sliding out the current A/C. Then, sliding the new A/C unit in and connectint the power wires??? Much else to it than that? You said to "fill in the gaps" if I put in a smaller A/C unit. Assuming there was an extra inch or two on the top or sides, what do I use to fill in the gaps? This would be between the actual A/C unit and the chassis! -I have the old a/c in the wall. -I want to keep the old chassis'. -I will put in a smaller A/C unit -what do I use to fill in the extra space/gaps between the new a/c AND the inside walls of the chassis? -I do not want to reframe the hole. I want to use the existing chassis!!!

What do you need for a thru the wall air conditioner?
Do I have to buy a sleeve? Are all sleeves a standard size? If the A/C breaks can I just slide it out and a new one in? Is 220 better than 110? I don't have 220. Who makes the best one? Do they change sizes year to year?
